Ik ben er !

Ik ben aangekomen in Kenia. Nachtvlucht Amsterdam - Nairobi met een enorme hoeveelheid bagage en verder met een heel oud vliegtuig naar Mombasa om een weekje bij vrienden op bezoek te gaan en te acclimatiseren.

Op het vliegveld in Nairobi werd mijn naam geroepen vanuit een groep mensen die arriverende reizigers in de ‘arrivals’ hal opwachtten. Tot mijn grote verrassing was het Alphonce mijn sparring partner voor het project in Dunga die toevallig die dag een groep gasten voor zijn organisatie van het vliegveld kwam ophalen. We hebben even staan kletsen en ik ben daarna weer verder gereisd maar was wel gelijk helemaal thuis.

Vliegend over het oosten van het land (Nairobi – Mombasa) viel op dat het er allemaal veel groener uitziet dan in februari. John, de taxi chauffeur in Mombasa vertelde me dat de ergste problemen met de droogte enigszins achter de rug zijn. Thank God!

Een weekje Mombasa dus. ’s Ochtends werken en na de lunch met vriend Charles en zijn broertje Young, winkelen, terrasje en wellicht strand. Het is relatief koel (27 graden) hier en regenachtig. Na de hitte in Nederland zeer welkom moet ik zeggen.

I have arrived!

I’ve arrived in Kenya. Nightfligt Amsterdam –Nairobi with lots of heavy luggage and continuing to Mombasa in a very old and worn down airplane to visit friends and acclimatise.

On Nairobi airport I heard somebody call my name from a crowd that was waiting for travellers in arrivals hall. To my surprise it was Alphonce, my sparring partner for the project in Dunga who happened to be picking up a group of guests for his organisation. We only had a short conversation before I proceeded checking in at domestics, but it made me feel at home immediately.

Flying over the east part of Kenya (Nairobi - Mombasa) the land appeared to be much greener than in Februari. John, the taxi driver in Mombasa told me that the drought and famine situation is under control now since it has been raining a lot lately. Thank god!

A week in Mombasa. Working in the morning and lunch with Charles and his brother. And in the afternoon; window shopping, masala thee on a nice terrace and maybe the beach. It’s relatively cold here (27 degrees) and rainy. After the exhausting heat wave in Amsterdam I do welcome that.
